With the weather warming up, it’s time to look ahead to sun kissed afternoons and balmy evenings. We all want to find the best garden furniture to match our space – whether it’s a quiet country cottage, a fun-filled family home or a stylish urban hangout.
In this article, we’re looking at six trends for 2025 that are making waves in the world of garden furniture design. Read on to learn more about the must-have looks of the year.
Rope and String Garden Furniture
Once again, rope and string garden furniture continues to grow in popularity. Lightweight and versatile with a more trendy feel than your traditional rattan, these designs come in a variety of styles and pair well with other materials such as wood and metal.
Helena Davies, Head of Home Buying at Barker and Stonehouse says: "The addition of rope and string furniture brings a subtle touch of texture to your garden space, offering visual interest as well as comfort. It's also a natural element that looks very much at home in the outdoors, so it can lend itself easily to both modern and classic styles.
There's a real variation in designs coming through this year, with everything from sleek garden dining sets in dark aluminium to warm wooden sofas and chairs in soft beige tones."
Indoor/Outdoor Living
The indoor/outdoor trend is another one gaining traction this year, with a desire to replicate the comforts of the home in your garden. This can be achieved through luxurious furniture designs and upholstered seating, as well as with stylish finishing touches like accessories, soft furnishings and rugs.
Many of our 2025 garden furniture pieces look just as at home inside as they do outside, such as the colourful Rico tiled tables. We also offer a wide range of Kartell furniture which will give your garden (or your dining room!) a chic designer touch.
For the ultimate indoor-outdoor space, a garden kitchen will make you the host with the most. Whether it's a full scale installation or a few handy outdoor kitchen cabinets, why not take your al fresco dining experience to the next level this year?
Curved Garden Furniture
Much like we’ve seen inside the home, curved furniture is taking over the garden scene too! We’re seeing curvaceous garden dining chairs, round edged tables and smooth silhouettes on outdoor sofa sets.
In the garden especially, curved furniture contributes to a smooth and organic flow, which blends beautifully with the natural surroundings of an outdoor space.
Helena comments: "This step away from straight edges stems from interior design trends, as more and more people have begun to favour the softness of curves and the tranquil aesthetic that they bring to the home. You can take this serene effect even further by introducing cosy textures and natural materials, like wood or linen."
Modern Rattan Garden Furniture
Next up it's rattan garden furniture, but not as you know it. Although rattan remains a mainstay in many British gardens, we’re now looking to more contemporary styles with unique detailing like weaving and twists.
Since rattan has been a staple in UK gardens for so long, this trend is perfect for those who don't want to choose between modern style and the timeless charm of wicker furniture. Instead, you can have the best of both worlds, from bold and chunky weave patterns to statement knots and waves.
Natural Tones
Light and fresh colours are becoming more prominent in the garden space, with many people warming to neutral toned fabrics and cushions. This echoes the colour trends we're seeing inside the home too, and again ties into that aspirational blend of indoor/outdoor living.
Helena adds: "We've noticed a shift in consumers purchasing more neutral coloured furniture for their gardens, perhaps seeking an organic and calming feel.
Natural tones are a timeless option that will always look great in a garden, so think of it as an investment for the future if you're creating a new colour palette for your outdoor space this year."
Sustainability
In recent years we’ve all become more aware of the impact our purchases can have on the environment. And our garden furniture is no exception. The good news is, most garden furniture materials are relatively eco-friendly if you buy responsibly.
Wooden garden furniture is renowned for how well it lasts outside, often taking on a desirable weathered appearance after spending some time in the elements. The wood can also be reclaimed for other purposes at the end of its life. Similarly, aluminium is one of the greenest materials around, as it can be endlessly recycled.
But, for an extra gleam to your halo, consider purchasing recycled plastic garden furniture which looks and feels just as good as new, all while saving unnecessary waste from landfill.
