Looking to refresh your home for 2023? Don’t miss the must-have colours of the year.
From rich golden hues to the most coveted green of the moment, we’ve selected five beautiful schemes to enhance your everyday.
Read on to find out which colours are trending in the world of interiors, and how to style them like the professionals…
Spicy shades
Bring warmth and energy to your space with spice-inspired shades of cinnamon, saffron and paprika.
“These spicy colours create a nice intimate vibe, which is ideal for larger spaces. Combined with the right lighting and layers of soft furnishings, tones like turmeric and ginger will really warm things up.” says Helena Davies, Head of Home Buying at Barker and Stonehouse.
An orange sofa is the ultimate way to honour this colour trend. The showstopping Hoxton Sofa is dressed in beautiful marmalade velvet, and will take centre stage in an otherwise neutral space.
If your dining room could do with a dash of personality, look to our vibrant range of orange dining chairs – either as a matching set, or a feature piece. A firm favourite among our customers, Jasper ticks all of the boxes with its unique quilted design, luxuriously comfortable seat and swivel base. And in the bedroom, we love the Elara bed frame in soft cinammon velvet.
Don’t want to dial up the heat too much? Then try a more subtle approach with a few soft furnishings and accessories, like the Burnt Orange Cushion and Rust Table Lamp.
Uplifting yellow
The ideal accent colour for a positive vibe, yellow complements and enriches all kinds of schemes.
Helena advises “A small hint of yellow is sometimes all it takes to transform your interior. It’s a versatile colour that works well with others – try pairing with blue for a vibrant effect, or add a touch of softness with pink.”
Whether you want to fully embrace the yellow trend, or just dip your toe in, we’ve got a solution for every space.
Let the sun shine in your living room all year round with a stunning yellow sofa, like the bestselling Boone in sumptuous mustard velvet. Or for a playful pop of colour, say hello to our Yellow Angle Floor Lamp, with its wonderfully retro design.
Looking for a little yellow elsewhere in the home? Give your mornings a bit of a boost with our lovely Theodore cabinet, which is handpainted for a characterful finish. Dress your bed with a yellow cushion or two, and voila!
Warm brown
An extra cosy tone for any area of the home, warm shades of brown are the new neutral to try.
According to Helena, “Brown doesn’t have to mean bland. Look for variations in texture and tone to add interest to your space – such as rustic leathers, handcrafted ceramics, natural wood grains and wicker.”
Warm browns pack a little more punch than your usual neutrals. An easy way into this colour trend is to base your space around rich woods or leathers.
A brown leather sofa, like the Acacia, will bring a wealth of character to your living room, and it’s never going to go out of style. Pair with reclaimed wood furniture to create an effortlessly authentic vibe, or opt for carved woods for a more high-end feel – the Fearne Sideboard is a fantastic example of this.
You can really play with texture and tone when it comes to your accessories. The Leopard Glass Vase balances beautifully against heavy woods, while the luxurious design of the Mystic Rug will really bring your floor to life.
Soft neutrals
Natural, soothing shades continue to dominate the interiors scene – from dove grey to delicate beige.
“Pale washed woods will make your space feel light and airy” says Helena, “while snuggly fabrics like boucle and wool lend a delicate dose of comfort.”
If creating a spacious interior is your goal here, then look for furniture with slim proportions to complement this colour scheme. Our stunning Garcia Dining Table will really let your space breathe, thanks to its open base and glass top. Combine with cream dining chairs for a dreamy result.
In the living room, we’d recommend a cosy cream sofa with a mid-century inspired silhouette, like Paloma. One of our favourite upholstery pieces for a neutral colour scheme is the iconic Yeti Chair by Timothy Oulton. Dressed in shaggy sheepskin, it’s far from a boring choice.
And to finish – experiment with a mixture of hard and soft materials in your accessories. Think fluffy pampas grass and tufted cushions meets stoneware vases and concrete ornaments. We love the modern Loop Decoration, with its clean and simple design.
Sage green
Still having its moment, this earthy green is a grounded colour with a simple yet sophisticated feel.
Helena comments, “Taking inspo from the 70s, sage green can be styled with dark woods to give a grown-up feel to your interior. Calm and soothing, this colour pairing is perfect for a home office or bedroom. ”
Demand for sage green has gone through the roof in recent months, and sage green interiors only look set to get bigger. This trending colour scheme calls for comfortable fabrics and laidback furniture to achieve an uber relaxed style.
Always wanted a reading nook? Now’s the time to find that perfect green armchair. Our beautiful Hockney Chair is upholstered in lazy green velvet, and looks even better beside an industrial bookcase.
Elsewhere, the Maison Chest of Drawers is an unexpected way to tap into the sage green colour trend, featuring an understated design that blends function with style.
Greenery – whether real or artificial plants – will add even more serenity to your space, and can be reflected elsewhere in the room with leafy cushions and botanical artwork, such as the stunning Crane Picture.
